This was a fairly complex read, but absolutely worth the effort. Hiron Ennes has created a beautiful and insane world, full of unique and dynamic characters. There isn't magic, yet there is a sort of magic system at play. There is a lot of political intrigue, and a whole movement the reader doesn't quite realize they are witnessing until it comes to a head. The prose is beautiful, and matches the artistic style and elements of the story at hand. It is all incredibly imaginative. To explain the most marvelous part of this book would be to spoil it. It is truly amazing to me the way authors, such as Ennes, can plant little seeds all throughout a book, and yet the reader doesn't notice them until right when one is intended to. There isn't a twist per se, but there is a big reveal that changes the whole story into something deeper, and honestly, more sad and moving. I thought this was going to be a creepy, horror book about big bugs - though that's a lot of it on the surface - but it's really a book about resilience and love (but in a way that isn't corny).
