“I can probably get first place in any Slasher movie trivia competition for the rest of my life after this book.”

This book was both "hit" and "miss" for me. The Slasher trivia bits from Jade were entertaining and delightful, and overall I liked her as a main character. The scary/gorey parts were great, and easy to visualize horror-movie-style. And the mystery to the whole plot was well done. The pacing was off for me though. The book takes a while to get into anything horror/spooky/creepy, and then it all kind of happens at once in the last 15%. The ending also wasn't satisfactory, but this is the first in a trilogy, so I'm chalking it up to that. It took me a minute to adapt to SGJ's writing style, specifically his dialogue. It isn't bad, but it is unique at times. And more than once I had to reread a sentence or two to understand what was being said. I did like this book, and am looking forward to reading the sequel. It was a fun take on a slasher story, with a lot of different elements happening simultaneously to constantly keep it interesting.
