I love a book, such as this, that follows multiple characters across time. The reader is not always certain how these characters' lives intertwine, but you know eventually it is bound to happen. Mostly, I loved Sabine's story. She was interesting and fiery, and I enjoyed her complexity as a character. Charlotte was a bit naive for my tastes, but she was a good balance to Sabine throughout the story. Truthfully, I could have done without Alice. I don't know if her portion of the story was that compelling for me. I guess she was important for the ending, but I also didn't necessarily like the ending. What I did like were the different themes threaded through this book. What does it mean to live? What does it mean to die? What makes someone a monster? And what would you push through for love? The human spirit is strong, as is our desire for connection, to be seen, and Bury Our Bones shows that many times with multiple characters. It is a bit lengthy, but I was never bored reading it; even during Alice's chapters.
