Overall, I liked this spooky tale of devils and angels masquerading as men, but I -

• wanted it to be spookier. It didn't quite hit as "horror."
• didn't feel like I really connected with or cared about any of the main characters.
• was annoyed at how often there was French with no English translation.
• the ending was kind of confusing and came out of nowhere.

The monsters were great, we needed more of those! Additionally, I can't decide if the pacing was slow, or if I just took too long to read. This one might be on me. I did like the symbolism between men's behavior, and the devil's actions, the way we often didn't know if it was man or devil acting until revealed. And the hints to the title along the book were clever.

Dark story taking place in the 1300’s during the black plague. The vibe is reminiscent of Dark Soul’s games, very bleak and moody. The monsters in this book are really cool and memorable.
