“A good-enough conclusion for a good-enough series.”

I have trouble rating the books in this trilogy as I've struggled to pinpoint what exactly I don't like about them. I do like the plot, but it doesn't always land for me. My realization is that I don't necessarily care for any of the characters. I don't dislike them, but I don't connect with any of them. I just never developed a sense of affection or attachment to them. I wish I could explain why that is the case. Additionally, the random intimate scenes feel so unnecessary and jarring to me. They're not very long or descriptive, but nonetheless would be better omitted. The plot is interesting, with many twists - though not all of them are hard to see coming. I like the magic-system most of the time, and what we know of the world is unique and compelling. And, this third book in the trilogy, was probably the strongest of all three. These are pretty easy reads, so I would recommend them to someone who doesn't want to "work for" a story, but wants a bit of length. However, if you're looking for something complex and mature, these ain't it.
