I really enjoyed this book. There are many names and places, and the plot/problem isn't obvious initially, so The Priory of the Orange Tree is a little tough to first get into. Once I was in though, I was IN. The characters are deep, often morally grey, fallible (my fav), and experience a lot of growth. The world itself is very cool and diverse and it is clear a lot of effort was put into this story. The best advice I can give to anyone reading this book is to not focus too hard on remembering names, locations, titles, or landmarks. Samantha Shannon offers heaps of background info via names of people, places, and things, and though this enriches the world within the story, it can also become really confusing really quickly. Read the pages for what they are, and just ride the waves of the story where they take you. Anything that matters is reiterated constantly in a way that is helpful and not at all detracting from the story. This is definitely an epic-high fantasy, so it is complex and wonderful. It's similar to Game of Thrones where there are many characters whose end goals are not always obvious to the reader or the characters themselves. However, when everything comes together in the end, the story resolution is amazing. Overall I'd recommend this book to those that like epic high fantasy and have the bandwidth to read an enormous book.
