Sky Daddy is whacky, and bonkers, and just so delightful. The main character, Linda, is well fleshed out, she feels like a real person. Linda is full of quirks and oddities, but she always acts in line with her character. She also often refers to people and scenarios in plane/flying/airport terms which cracked me up, but also added to the credibility of her obsession with planes. It's clear Kate Folk took a lot of time and care in developing this story and its characters. This is a story about a weirdo with a sexual attraction to planes who wishes to experience marriage to a plane via a fatal crash (as one does). Though goofy, it also has a surprising amount of heart and depth. There is exploration of friendships, grief, guilt, and daring to be authentic to oneself. The book manages to never gets too deep or tragic - somehow balancing emotions with a general lightness. It is creative, and artful, and an excellent original story. If you can handle weird, I'd definitely recommend this book.
